今回は日本の伝統的な柄、“和柄”についてお話ししたいと思います。
私の想像した和柄のイメージは、昔おばあちゃんが着ていた着物や帯の柄、おじいちゃんが畑仕事の時、首に巻いていた手ぬぐいの柄、泥棒が背負っている緑の大きい風呂敷の柄。
こういったところでしょうか。
皆様は、和柄にどんなイメージをお持ちでしょうか。
今回はそんな和柄の魅力と、ファッションとの関係性についてご紹介したいと思います。

和柄の歴史
縄文時代の土器の表面に「より縄」を押し付けて描かれたものが１番古い文様と考えられていますが、和柄模様が本格的にデザインされ始めたのは、平安時代以降が多い様です。
平安時代初期、日本は中国の影響を受けたデザインのものも多くありましたが、その後平安時代後期には、日本の文化の発達や変化と共に、デザインも日本独自のものと変化していきました。
デザインの特徴としては、自然の持つ美しさや、季節、日本伝統の言い伝えなどがパターン化された物が多いです。
また、武家の家紋をパターンにして和柄が作られることもありました。和柄模様とは100年以上継承されている、とても歴史深く、ロマンを感じてしまいました。
History of Japanese pattern
It is thought that the oldest pattern is the one drawn by pressing “Yori-nawa” on the surface of the pottery during the Jomon era.
In the early Heian era, many designs in Japan were influenced by China, but in the late Heian era, with the development and change of Japanese culture, the design has changed to be unique to Japan.
As the design features, many of them are patterned with the beauty of nature, the seasons and the legends of Japanese traditions.
Also, Japanese patterns were sometimes made using the samurai family crest as a pattern.
The Japanese pattern has been inherited for over 100 years, and it has a very long history and I felt a romance.

ということで、今回は現代ファッションでも人気のある“市松模様”をご紹介していこうと思います。
市松模様は碁盤目状の格子の目を色違いに並べた模様で、いわゆるチェック柄と同様の模様です。
「石畳」「霰（あられ）」などとも呼ばれ、英語では、チェッカーフラッグ柄やチェスボード柄とも呼ばれていますね。
市松模様は、上下左右に途切れず続く模様が特徴、終わりがないようなイメージで、永遠や、発展拡大、繁栄を意味する柄と呼ばれているようです。
2020東京オリンピック・パラリンピックのエンブレムやオリンピックキャラクターデザインにも使用されましたね。
このエンブレムは、「組市松紋（くみいちまつもん）」と命名され、３つの四角形から形成されていて、国や文化、思想の違いなどからくる、多様性を表現されたようです。
2020年空前の大ヒットアニメ、鬼滅の刃のキャラター主人公、竈門炭次郎が着ている着物の柄も緑と白の市松模様でしたね。
炭次郎カラーの市松模様マスクや洋服に身を包む、鬼滅の刃ファンの子供達が街中に溢れかえっていました。
東京オリンピック・パラリンピック、日本のアニメをきっかけに、まだ和柄を知らない世界中の人々が和柄を知り、興味を持ち、和柄の良さを知っていただけるきっかけになれば良いなと思います。

意味は「昔のことを知り、そこから新しい考えや知識を得ること」和柄（市松模様）の事を知り、そこから現代の和柄の姿が見えてきましたよね。
今当たり前として存在している和柄（市松模様）ですが、100年以上も前の柄が現代ファッション最前線の柄物として、存在していることに尊さを感じます。

今後のファッションやカルチャーとの新たな融合が楽しみです。
