流行がない定番商品。
今回ご紹介するのはリーバイス（Levi’s）ジーンズです。
ヴィンテージものは、時代背景がイメージできるようなディテールがあり「なんかロマンがあるなぁ」といつも感慨深く思います。そしてリーバイスは100種類存在し、今回はその中でも私がおすすめする３モデルをご紹介。リーバイス（Levi’s）ジーンズの歴史や魅力も併せてご紹介していきたいと思います。

・リーバイス（Levi’s）の歴史
リーバイスの創業者、リーバイ・ストラウスは1853年〜鉱山で働く鉱夫のために、キャンバス地を使ったワークパンツを作ったことがジーンズ誕生の始まりだと言われています。労働者の声をもとに考えた、“厳しい作業環境でも破れない耐久性のあるパンツ”を作るために、仕立屋のジェイコブ・デイビスの“リベットの金具でポケットを補強する”というアイデアを採用し、リーバイとジェイコブはその方法の特許を取得しました。そして現代の形に近いジーンズが誕生したのです。
1890年〜初めてのロットナンバー「５０１」のジーンズが誕生しました。
この時点ではまだベルトループではなく、サスペンダーボタンとシンチバック、バックポケットも１つだけのデザイン。
1933年〜サスペンダーボタンとシンチバック、バックポケット１つだけのデザインから、
現代でも馴染みのある、ベルトループが付けられました。
1940年〜ジーンズは、アメリカ西海岸の大学で流行し、仕事着としてではなく、
ファッションアイテムとして人気を博しました。
History of Levi’s
The birth of jeans is said that Levi’s founder, Levi Strauss, had made work pants with canvas for miners who was working in mines in 1853.Based on the voices of workers, Levi adopted the idea of tailor Jacob Davis’s “reinforcing pockets with metal fittings rivet” to make “durable pants that won’t tear even in harsh work environments”, and Levi and Jacob got the patent for that. And jeans that are close to the modern ones were born.
In 1890, the first jeans with lot number “501” were born. At this point, the design was not with belt loops yet, but with suspenders buttons, cinch buckles, and back pockets.
In 1933, a belt loop that is familiar even in modern times was attached.
In 1940, jeans became popular at colleges on the west coast of the United States and got popular as fashion items rather than as work clothes.

シルエットは、太ももから裾にかけてストンと一直線のシルエット。股下が深くゆったりしたシルエットですが、ウエストはスッキリしたサイズ感。ジャストサイズに穿くのがおすすめです。フロント部分がボタンになっているボタンフライは、501が誕生して現在まで引き継がれているデザインです。

太ももから裾にかけて細くなっていく、テーパードシルエット。
股上が深めでウエストは緩め。ダボッと大きめに穿くのがおすすめです。初めてファッションモデルとして作られたと言われている505は、フロントボタンからジッパーに改良されました。スタイリッシュに穿けるこのモデルは女性にもおすすめです。

ブーツカットは美脚効果もあるのでスタイルよく見せられます。ブーツカットデザインはカウボーイのために作られたジーンズとも言われています。1970年代に流行したヒッピーファッション。その象徴的なファッションアイテムとして、ブーツカットジーンズは有名ですね。

リーバイスはジーンズの歴史を作り上げてきたブランドです。ヴィンテージ物も、希少なら数百万で売り買いされているものもあるようです。これだけ愛されている理由の一つは、時代背景に合った商品をどんどん開発していることだと感じました。ゴールドラッシュを始め、第二次世界大戦など歴史的出来事があるそんな状況でも、必要とされるジーンズを追求して形にしていくことの探究心と行動力に驚きました。
あともう一つ驚いたことがあります。
170年以上も昔の時代ですが、ジーンズの認知度を上げるため、ジーンズを売るための戦略的なP R活動をしていた事です。P R活動をした結果、ジーンズの認知度、人気共に獲得して成功しているところなんかも、リーバイスが今現在も、キング・オブ・ジーンズの理由なのかもしれませんね。

I felt that one of the reasons why it was loved that they were developing more and more products that matched the background of the items. I was surprised at the spirit of inquiry and the ability to take action to pursue and shape the jeans that are needed even under such historical situations such as the gold rush and World War II.
Also, another thing surprised me.
More than 170 years ago, I was doing strategic PR activities to sell jeans in order to raise awareness of jeans. As a result of the PR activities, Levi’s may be still “King of jeans” because it has succeeded in gaining awareness and popularity of jeans.
